A Hyderabad-based businessman received a call from someone claiming to be from SBI credit card services. The scammer told him a new card had been issued in his name and requested his credit card details for “confirmation.” Believing the caller, the victim shared the details, which resulted in an unauthorized transaction on his SBI credit card.

The malware compromised his phone, and SMS messages were automatically forwarded to fraudsters, leading to unauthorized transactions from his ICICI credit card.
The police identified and removed the malware from the victim’s phone. They also sent a notice to the merchant, Amazon, requesting the fraudulent transaction be stopped. As a result, Rs 97,998 was refunded to the victim’s SBI credit card.

A Hyderabad resident received a fraudulent WhatsApp call from someone pretending to be an HDFC Bank employee. The scammer offered to increase the victim’s credit card limit and sent a link titled “HDFC card limit increase,” asking the victim to fill in their details.
Shortly after, Rs 90,200 was fraudulently debited from the victim’s credit card. The cyber crime police quickly identified and removed malware from the victim’s mobile device. The stolen amount was refunded to the victim’s credit card via PhonePe before it could reach the scammer’s account.
