    Hyderabad:
    In a significant achievement, the Cyberabad police have successfully recovered 800 stolen and lost mobile phones within 35 days. These phones, worth Rs 2.40 crore, were returned to their rightful owners on Wednesday at the Cyberabad Commissionerate. The recovery was made possible through the use of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal.

    According to Cyberabad DCP Crimes K Narasimha, the recovery was handled by various teams. He shared that 135 phones were recovered by Madhapur CCS, 140 by Balanagar CCS, 101 by Medchal CCS, 133 by Rajendranagar CCS, 72 by Shamshabad CCS, 105 by Medchal Zone, and 101 by the IT Cell.

    The DCP highlighted the importance of avoiding the purchase or sale of stolen goods, warning that it is a punishable offense. He advised the public to be careful with their belongings and avoid negligence. He also mentioned that cybercrimes are on the rise, with fraudsters using tactics like inappropriate video calls to blackmail people. Additionally, he urged caution regarding UPI frauds and suspicious links.

    Narasimha emphasized that mobile phones hold vital personal information and memories. He pointed out that thieves are persistent, but with vigilance, the public can play a role in recovering their stolen devices. He noted that despite high levels of education, many people are unaware of how to prevent their stolen phones from being misused.

    The DCP encouraged the public to report stolen or lost phones at their nearest police station or using the CEIR portal, which is available across all States and Union Territories. He explained that the portal helps prevent the misuse of stolen phones and speeds up their recovery.

    For cases related to cybercrimes, Narasimha advised citizens to dial 1930 or visit cybercrime.gov.in to file a complaint as soon as possible after the theft.

    Several people who had their phones recovered expressed their gratitude to the Cyberabad police for their swift action and efforts in returning their devices.
