Telangana has been named the state with the best environment policies by the Centre for Science and Environment. This is due to initiatives such as afforestation and municipal waste management. Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao said this recognition is thanks to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s commitment to the environment. The state government has planted over 273 crore saplings in the past nine years, increasing the forest area from 19,854 square kms in 2015-16 to 26,969 square kms by 2023. Hyderabad has been recognized as World Tree City twice due to these efforts.

The Telangana government has also taken on many environment-friendly programs, including green farming. They plan to continue with excellent plans for sanitation management, which is a major challenge in urban areas. A program of bio-mining of garbage has already been initiated in many municipalities and all municipal corporations across the state. In addition, Hyderabad city has produced 24 megawatts of electricity from waste to energy, ranking second in the country in this field.
