The crime rate in the Rachakonda police commissionerate went up by 4% in 2024 compared to the previous year, according to an annual report shared by Police Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu. The report revealed increases in several types of crimes, highlighting some areas of concern.
Serious crimes such as murders rose by 11%, while kidnappings increased by 10%. Alarmingly, the number of rape cases saw a 17% jump compared to 2023.
Cybercrimes, in particular, saw a sharp rise, surging by 42.5%. As part of their efforts to combat these crimes, the police arrested 53 foreigners. They also managed to freeze Rs 23.12 crore in bank accounts linked to cybercrimes and refunded Rs 21.94 crore to victims.
In addition to addressing cybercrimes, the police took action against drug-related offenses. Special Operation Teams registered 183 cases under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act, leading to the arrest of 130 individuals.
These statistics highlight the growing challenges faced by law enforcement in the region, with cybercrimes and drug-related offenses emerging as significant concerns.
