Hyderabad: A local court on Wednesday cancelled the interim bail of former Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) N Bhujanga Rao. The court directed him to return to judicial custody by 4 PM on Thursday.
Bhujanga Rao had been given interim bail earlier due to health issues, and the bail had been extended twice. His lawyer had filed petitions requesting the extensions, citing his medical condition. Bhujanga Rao is the second main accused in a high-profile phone tapping case under investigation at the Punjagutta police station.
On November 8, Bhujanga Rao’s lawyer submitted another petition for a further extension of bail. However, the public prosecutor opposed this request. The prosecutor argued that if Bhujanga Rao remained out on bail, he could potentially influence or threaten witnesses and tamper with evidence.
Back in August, Bhujanga Rao had originally been granted bail due to health concerns. Reports suggested that doctors recommended heart surgery for him. After hearing both sides, the court decided to cancel the bail and ordered that Bhujanga Rao return to prison by Thursday afternoon.
