A Delhi court extended Manish Sisodia’s judicial custody until June 1 due to a money laundering case related to the alleged excise scam. The judge also instructed prison authorities to consider providing Sisodia with a chair, table, and books while in custody. Sisodia accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of not believing in democracy and becoming arrogant while being escorted out of the courtroom. The Delhi government implemented the excise policy in November 2021 but scrapped it in September 2022 due to allegations of corruption. Sisodia is an accused party in cases lodged by both the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate.
The AAP alleged that a policeman misbehaved with Sisodia at the Rouse Avenue court, but the Delhi Police dismissed this as propaganda. AAP leader Atishi posted a video of the alleged incident on Twitter and called for the Delhi Police to suspend the officer immediately. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal criticized the police for their behavior towards Sisodia, questioning if they had been instructed to behave that way. AAP leader Sanjay Singh claimed that the police misbehaved with Sisodia to please their boss and called for the court to take notice of the incident.
