Brendon McCullum, the former New Zealand captain, has been promoting an online gambling company called 22Bet since January. He has appeared in advertisements for the company online. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is now looking into his involvement with the company and has talked to him about it. The Problem Gambling Foundation has also raised concerns. The ECB has rules in place about gambling and wants to make sure they are followed. They have clarified that McCullum is not currently under investigation. The ECB’s anti-discrimination code states that encouraging others to bet on matches or competitions is not allowed and could result in a one-year period of ineligibility. McCullum is described as an official ambassador for 22Bet India in the company’s promotional material. He tweeted about the company in January, but the tweet has since been deleted.
