Women Workers Face Harassment and Unfair Treatment at Wanaparthy Government Hospital
Women workers at the Government General Hospital in Wanaparthy are reportedly facing harassment and unfair treatment by the contractor responsible for cleanliness and security services. Some workers claim that those who complain or refuse to follow the contractor’s demands are being removed from their jobs. Previously, around 10 workers were dismissed, yet their names were still being used for billing purposes, raising concerns about possible financial fraud.
Officials have expressed frustration with the contractor’s mismanagement, despite making payments of ₹29.26 lakh per month from July to November. Additionally, some female workers have accused certain individuals within the contractor’s team of misbehaving with them, making the work environment toxic and unsafe.
There are also allegations that the contractor is inflating the number of workers on the payroll to deceive officials and pocket the extra funds. Initially, the hospital reportedly had 200 staff members. However, sources claim that the current workforce has dropped to around 150, with only a fraction actively working. Despite this, the contractor continues to receive full payments as if the original number of workers were still employed.
Wanaparthy District Hospital has expanded from a 100-bed facility to a 530-bed one, meaning it requires sufficient staff for cleaning and security. However, the contractor is allegedly submitting fake attendance records, listing more employees than actually present, in order to maximize profits.
Senior officials, who are already dealing with a shortage of medical staff, have strongly criticized the contractor’s poor management and misconduct. Many are now calling for the implementation of biometric attendance tracking to ensure transparency and prevent further exploitation of workers.
