The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extremely heavy rains in Telangana on Sunday and Monday. In response, a red alert has been issued for seven districts and an orange alert for 15 districts across the state.

The state government has declared a holiday for schools in Hyderabad on Monday due to the expected heavy rainfall. This weather condition is caused by a low-pressure area over the Northwest Bay of Bengal, which is likely to intensify into a deep depression.

The districts under the red alert include Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Karimnagar, Khammam, Mulugu, Nalgonda, and Peddapalli.

The orange alert has been issued for Adilabad, Hanamkonda, Jagtial, Jangaon, Jogulamba Gadwal, Kamareddy, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mahabubabad, Mahabubnagar, Mancherial, Medak, Nagarkurnool, Narayanpet, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Suryapet, Vikarabad, Wanaparthy, and Warangal.

Heavy rains have already caused streams to overflow and roads to flood in the old Mahbubnagar area. In Peddakotapalli mandal, a house collapsed due to the rain. In Jadcherla, knee-deep water in front of the Government hospital has created difficulties for patients.

In Khammam and Madhira, all rivulets are overflowing due to the heavy rainfall. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu had to cancel his visit to Karimnagar and Chennur and rush to Khammam to monitor the situation personally.

Thorrur town in Mahabubabad district also experienced heavy rainfall, leading to flooding in several low-lying areas. Streets and homes were waterlogged due to the sudden downpour.

On Saturday, many districts reported light to moderate rains and thundershowers. Heavy rainfall was specifically noted in Nagarkurnool, Rangareddy, Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Yadadri Bhuvangiri.

In response to the situation, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari has instructed District Collectors to take precautions to prevent any loss of life and property. She emphasized that control rooms should be set up in each district collector’s office and that relief camps be opened immediately. Medical teams have been alerted, and necessary medicines have been stocked in all primary health centers.

Currently, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are stationed in Hyderabad and will be sent to areas most affected by the heavy rains. Officials from the Irrigation Department are monitoring water levels in reservoirs and projects, and people in submerged areas will be evacuated promptly.

State Director General of Police (DGP) Jitender has stated that all police commissioner offices and Superintendents of Police (SPs) in the state have been put on high alert. They have been directed to work closely with the District Collectors to manage the situation effectively.
