On Friday, the Lok Sabha secretariat issued a notification stating that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been formally disqualified as a Member of Parliament from Kerala’s Wayanad segment. This comes after Gandhi was convicted by a Surat Court in a 2019 defamation case for his comments about “How come all the thieves have got the same surname Modi.” According to the law, Gandhi faced an instant disqualification from his post as an MP.
The Congress party has vowed to take up the case legally and politically. Party Chief Mallikarjun Kharge is set to meet all state presidents today to finalize an outreach campaign about the “Victimization of Gandhi and Vendetta Politics to silence his questioning of alleged PM Narendra Modi and Industrialist Gautam Adani Links.”
AICC General Secretary Jairam Ramesh responded to the disqualification notice, saying, “We will fight this battle both legally and politically. We will not be intimidated or silenced. Instead of a JPC into the PM-linked Adani MahaMegaScam, @RahulGandhi stands disqualified. Indian Democracy Om Shanti.”
Additionally, Renuka Chowdary stated that she plans to file a case against Modi for controversial comments made against her during a Parliament session. She was compared to Ramayana’s serial character “Surpanaka.” She further added that she wants to see how fast the court will act now.
