The Mahabubnagar District Congress Committee held a massive protest on Monday to express their strong opposition to the Union Budget 2024. The protest was organized under the leadership of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud. Key Congress leaders, including Devarakadra MLA and Mahabubnagar District Congress President G Madhusudhan Reddy (GMR) and local MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy, actively participated in the event.
During the protest, MLA G Madhusudhan Reddy criticized the central government for allegedly favoring BJP-ruled states like Bihar and Delhi, while neglecting the development needs of Telangana. He stated that despite repeated efforts by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to secure funds, the Union Budget failed to address key projects in the state. He highlighted the continued denial of national status to the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project, which is vital for the region’s irrigation and drinking water needs.
GMR also pointed out the lack of support for other important projects such as the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road, Metro Rail expansion, and the Musi River Rejuvenation Project. He criticized the central government for ignoring these initiatives, which he said are essential for Telangana’s growth and development.
The MLA further expressed disappointment with the eight BJP MPs from Telangana, accusing them of failing to secure funds for the state. He particularly criticized the Mahabubnagar MP for neglecting the district’s development and focusing solely on attacking the Chief Minister. According to GMR, the people of Mahabubnagar had hoped their MP would fight for their rightful share of development funds, but he had let them down. He stated that the BJP’s actions once again demonstrated its lack of commitment to Telangana’s progress.
The protest saw a large gathering of Congress leaders, party workers, and supporters. Slogans against the central government echoed throughout the event. Prominent leaders such as Minority Finance Corporation representative Obedullah Kotwal, Mahabubnagar Municipal Chairman Anand Goud, and Mooda Chairman Laxman Yadav actively participated in the demonstration, further bolstering the Congress Party’s opposition to the Union Budget.
