The AICC Secretary and former legislature, Dr SA Sampath Kumar, led a protest with Congress party members and farmers at the RDS canal. They were demanding the release of water from the canal. The farmers claimed that they have been growing crops like cotton, paddy, maize, and chilli for the past two months. However, due to lack of rain, their crops are at risk of drying up. They blamed the negligence of officials and the ruling government for not requesting water release from the RDS canal to the Water Board.
During the protest, Sampath Kumar criticized the ruling MLA and MLC for not listening to the farmers and instead engaging in political accusations against each other. He mentioned that the Tummilla Reservoir, which was planned during the Congress government, is yet to be completed. As a result, farmers are suffering significant losses because water is not reaching Mallamma Kunta Julakal and Valluru reservoirs. The flow of water from Tummilla to RDS was stopped after the elections, and the lift started only during election time. Sampath Kumar warned that if water is not released within two or three days, they will take severe actions against the negligence of the Telangana state government.
The protest saw a large participation of Congress party leaders and farmers from Vaddepalli, Shanti Nagar, and Alampur Constituency.
