The Telangana Assembly is expected to have a heated discussion on Monday as the Congress government plans to present a whitepaper on irrigation projects. The whitepaper will highlight the irregularities that occurred during the previous BRS government in terms of technology, design, and finances.
To prepare for this, the Congress party organized a special workshop for all MLAs and MLCs at Praja Bhavan. They discussed the issues that would be presented in the Assembly and how Congress legislators should address the alleged irregularities in the irrigation sector.
During the workshop, Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy gave a detailed presentation on each project. He explained how the previous government did not follow proper procedures in constructing dams and how the KCR government interfered with project works, changed designs, and failed to monitor work quality. This resulted in damage to the Medigadda barrage and sinking of piers. He also discussed the original estimated cost of projects and the subsequent cost escalation, which caused significant losses to the state’s finances.
Uttam Reddy also highlighted the Palamuru Ranaga Reddy and Jurala projects, which were started during the Congress regime in undivided Andhra Pradesh but were abandoned by the BRS government after Telangana was formed.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who attended the meeting, emphasized the importance of understanding the details presented. He urged members to have a clear understanding of the irregularities committed by the BRS government before their visit to Medigadda on Tuesday.
There is a possibility of postponing the visit to Medigadda to allow BRS legislators to join. However, no decision has been made yet. BRS working president K T Rama Rao dismissed the visit, stating that Revanth Reddy and his team should see how the BRS government successfully completed Kaleshwaram, which is the world’s biggest lift irrigation scheme. He claimed that minor technical problems at a barrage were being exaggerated for political purposes.
