In a recent announcement before the elections, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge revealed the party’s promise for Andhra Pradesh. The plan, called ‘Indiramma Abhayam’, guarantees a monthly fund of Rs 5,000 to every poor family in the State.
Kharge, along with APCC president YS Sharmila, introduced the program at the Congress party’s first election meeting, ‘Nyaya Sadhana Sabha’, in Anantapur. They presented a large check with the campaign promise signed by Sharmila.
Kharge criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for neglecting Andhra Pradesh since its division. He assured that the Congress party would continuously advocate for Special Category Status (SCS) for the State.
Reflecting on the progress during YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s time as Chief Minister, Kharge stated that the Congress party aims to continue this development under Sharmila’s leadership. He highlighted the united support from Congress leaders, party workers, and the public for Sharmila.
Kharge mentioned that there was little difference between the YSRCP, TDP, and JSP in Andhra Pradesh. He accused all three parties of supporting and aligning with Modi.
Kharge criticized the BJP for not providing substantial support to Andhra Pradesh in the past decade. He noted that promises like granting SCS or funding irrigation projects were not fulfilled by the Central Government. Despite this, the State-level parties continue to support Modi, which surprised Kharge.
Kharge urged the public to vote for the Congress party in both Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. He highlighted the reliability of the Indiramma Abhayam scheme compared to unfulfilled promises by Modi.
