On the last day of election campaigning in Telangana, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took an auto ride in Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills. Before the ride, he took a selfie with the auto drivers while wearing an auto driver uniform. He then rode in the auto with security personnel running alongside. A video of the scene was shared on social media.
During the same day, Rahul Gandhi also spoke to sanitary and gig workers in Hyderabad. He assured them that if Congress is voted to power in Telangana, they will consider bringing in legislation for the welfare of gig workers, similar to a law recently passed in Rajasthan. Rahul Gandhi said that after coming to power, the chief minister and minister concerned will hold a meeting with them to decide on welfare measures.
Rahul Gandhi was accompanied by state Congress working president and former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin, who is the party candidate from Jubilee Hills. Rahul Gandhi also mentioned that under the law brought by the Congress government in Rajasthan, companies deposit money for social security measures like pension and insurance for gig workers.
The gig workers shared their daily problems with Rahul Gandhi, such as decreasing earnings per order and increasing expenses due to rising petrol prices. They also complained about low delivery charges, lack of vehicles or petrol expenses provided by companies, and the absence of insurance in case of accidents. Rahul Gandhi suggested setting up a welfare board for gig workers to address these issues.
