Since the Congress government took control in Telangana in December 2023, the BRS has been losing many civic body chief positions. About 15 municipal chairperson positions and over half a dozen municipal vice-chairperson positions have been taken over by the Congress party due to numerous no-confidence motions being moved against them.

The Congress party obtaining the chief positions of Urban Local Bodies is believed to have benefited the ruling party in urban areas, potentially influencing the recent Lok Sabha elections. The BRS had previously dominated the municipal elections in 2020, winning 107 out of 120 municipalities.

The trend of no-confidence motions began in February of this year with Burri Srinivas Reddy of Congress becoming the chairperson of Nalgonda municipality. Following these motions, the Congress also secured the vice-chairperson positions in various municipalities previously held by BRS members. The next municipal elections are scheduled for January 2025.
