The Election Commission of India recently announced the poll schedule, which has disappointed political parties like Congress and BRS in Hyderabad. These parties were expecting Lok Sabha elections in Telangana to be held by the third week of April, but now they have to wait until May 13. The hot summer temperatures, predicted to reach over 40 degrees in April and possibly 45 degrees in May, will make campaigning difficult.
The extreme heat will make it challenging to sustain the campaign momentum, prevent party members from switching sides, and organize public meetings. Candidates will also have to spend more money on campaigns and maintaining their support base. Both Congress and BJP were already gearing up for elections, with the BJP hoping to become the main opposition party in the state.
Congress was confident of repeating its success in the Assembly elections and winning around 10 to 12 Lok Sabha seats. The party was also pleased with the increasing number of BRS members wanting to join Congress, with over a dozen BRS MLAs expected to switch parties in the coming days.
