A political argument happened on Friday after Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that there is no proof that Lord Mountbatten, C Rajagopalachari, and Jawaharlal Nehru described the ‘Sengol’ as a symbol of transfer of power by the British to India. Ramesh said that claims to this effect are untrue. Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused the Congress party of heaping “another shameful insult”. The BJP and Congress parties took swipes at each other over the proposed installation of ‘Sengol’ by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.
Ramesh claimed that a sceptre was presented to Jawaharlal Nehru in August 1947. BJP national president JP Nadda took a jibe at the Congress and said parties that are boycotting the inauguration of the new Parliament building are dynasty-run. Many Opposition parties have decided to boycott the event.
