Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is working to merge the BRS legislature party with the CLP in order to secure a two-thirds majority of MLAs before the start of the budget sessions in the Assembly.
Sources indicate that six additional MLAs from the BRS are in contact with the Congress party and are prepared to defect. Most of the city MLAs are reportedly in talks with Congress leaders. Among those considering joining Congress are Rajendranagar MLA T Prakash Goud, Serilingampally MLA A Gandhi, and two MLCs, one of whom is associated with BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao’s community.
The BRS has already lost six MLAs, with Rajendranagar MLA potentially becoming the seventh. The party has also seen six MLCs defect to Congress recently. This move is seen as retaliation for BRS merging CLP with BRSLP previously.
The Congress aims to reach the required two-thirds majority of 26 members to facilitate the merger without invoking Anti-Defection laws. Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender predicts that only four MLAs will remain with BRS, suggesting an imminent merger with CLP. Nagender cited dissatisfaction with KCR’s leadership style as a key reason for defections to Congress.
