The city convenor of Congress in Khammam, Mohammad Javeed, criticized the arrest of party leaders and workers who were protesting at the Municipal Corporation office. The protest was about the widening of a road in the 54th division. Javeed called the arrest undemocratic and illegal. He explained that they were demanding an increase in the width of a 3.75 meter road to 5 meters, as it is always busy near the TDP office. Local Congress corporator Mikkilineni Manjula also joined the protest, demanding a wider road to accommodate the traffic. However, the police arrested them and took them to the CTC office in the police headquarters.

Several other party members showed their support for the arrested leaders, including Congress state leader Maddineni Baby Swarnakumari, Tumburu Dayakar Reddy, Sarpanch Gone Bhujanga Reddy, and others. Congress corporators, OBC cell district presidents, state minority leaders, and district minority leaders also participated in the dharna before the Municipal office.
