A clash between the police of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana happened at the Nagarjuna Sagar project. This has caused concern for both the BRS and Congress parties. They are worried that the conflict over sharing water from the Krishna river will affect the voting in old Nalgonda, Khammam, and Mahabubnagar districts. These districts rely on the Krishna river for drinking water and irrigation.
The BRS party believes that this issue will give them an advantage in the election. They think that KCR, the leader of BRS, has been consistently fighting for water rights. They hope that this issue will influence voters to support them.
Reports suggest that Congress is gaining support from voters in districts affected by the Krishna river. The BRS leaders believe that farmers will intensify their demands for water sharing, which will attract voters in Congress-run districts.
The tension escalated when police officers from Andhra Pradesh entered the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam and fenced off the 13th gate. They claimed that the dam belongs to their state. Around 700 APSP officers clashed with the TSSF personnel who were guarding the dam. Some Telangana police officers were injured. The AP officers also damaged CCTV cameras at the gate.
This incident is not the first of its kind. On February 13, 2015, a similar clash occurred when AP police tried to enter the dam but were stopped by Telangana’s Greyhounds teams.
