Gadwal Farmers’ Conference Promotes Modern Farming Techniques
A Farmers' Conference was held in Gadwal on Saturday with the goal of raising awareness about modern farming practices. The event took place at the Agricultural Market Committee and was attended by local MLA Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy and District Collector BM Santosh.
At the conference, officials visited 40 stalls set up by the Horticulture and Agriculture Departments. These stalls showcased a variety of products such as seeds, farming equipment, drip irrigation systems, fertilizers, pesticides, and innovative tools. Each stall presented the latest technology and methods for farming and horticulture.
Speaking to the audience, the District Collector shared that about 80% of the population in the district depends on agriculture. He explained that around 4,00,000 acres of land in the district are mostly used for growing rice and cotton. He added that the purpose of the conference was to help farmers learn about more profitable crops through guidance from the Horticulture and Agriculture Departments.
The Collector also talked about the importance of saving water. He pointed out that one acre of rice usually needs 1.2 million litres of water, while crops like pigeon pea and other dryland crops need only 5,00,000 to 6,00,000 litres. He suggested that farmers consider growing crops such as pigeon pea, palm oil, dragon fruit, and citrus fruits, which can give good yields with less water.
To help farmers make this shift, the conference had stalls displaying modern machinery and tools like small machines and drones. These tools can help farmers work more efficiently and reduce the need for manual labor. The use of nano-technology fertilizers was also promoted, as they can boost crop yields while cutting costs. Farmers were encouraged to explore the stalls and choose the equipment that best suits their needs.
MLA Krishna Mohan Reddy urged farmers to embrace new and advanced farming techniques and move away from old methods to improve productivity and efficiency.
