A meeting was held in Wanaparthy on Thursday to discuss maternal and infant mortality in the district. The meeting took place at the district collectorate, and it focused on deaths that occurred between January and September.
The District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), R. Jayachandra Mohan, reported that there were 4 maternal deaths from January to September and 56 infant deaths from April to September. The Collector reviewed each case individually to understand the reasons behind these deaths. He emphasized the need for extra care for high-risk pregnant women. Medical officers were instructed to thoroughly check and record the health history of these women during ANC (Antenatal Care) check-ups. Additionally, the Collector suggested that ECG tests should be conducted for high-risk pregnant women.
The Collector also raised concerns about the high number of C-section deliveries in Vepanagandla and other primary health centers. He pointed out that with the appointment of staff nurses and improved infrastructure, including air-conditioned labor wards, the number of normal deliveries in primary health centers should increase.
Several other officials, including Additional Collector Local Bodies Sanchit Gangwar, Dr. Kiranmayi, Chinnamma Thomas, and Dr. Sainath Reddy, were present at the meeting.
