Awards were given to the winning boys and girls in the 100m athletic, 50m swimming, and badminton events in Karimnagar on Tuesday. District Collector Dr B Gopi emphasized the importance of sports and encouraged parents to support their children’s participation in sports along with their studies. He mentioned that Telangana has produced many successful athletes like Sania Mirza, PV Sindhu, Nikhat Zareen, Saina Nehwal, and Neeraj Chopra.
The sports awareness conference, called Chalo Maidan, was organized by the District Collector on National Sports Day to honor Major Dhyan Chand’s birth anniversary. The Collector highlighted the achievements of Telangana in hockey and mentioned the availability of sports facilities in the region. He also stated that the State government is investing in better facilities for athletes, including regional sports schools and Ambedkar Stadiums in Karimnagar district.
Mayor Y Sunil Rao emphasized the importance of showcasing talent not only in academics but also in sports. He assured that the government is committed to supporting athletes and developing them into top sportspersons. CP L Subbarayudu encouraged everyone to participate in sports, highlighting the positive impact it can have on individuals and society as a whole. He also praised Major Dhyan Chand for his contributions to Indian hockey.
During the event, veteran sportspersons and coaches were felicitated, and awards were presented to the winners of various athletic, swimming, and badminton competitions. Several dignitaries, including SUDA Chairman GV Ramakrishna Rao and Additional DCP Lakshminarayana, were present at the event.
