Nagar Kurnool: Help for Chenchu Tribes
Nagar Kurnool District Collector, Badavath Santosh, has asked officials to provide essential facilities to the Chenchu tribes. The Chenchus are recognized as one of the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). These services will be provided through the Prime Minister’s Jan Man program.
On Tuesday, the Collector held a review meeting at the district collectorate. Officials from different departments and POITDA officer, Rohit Gopidi, were present. They discussed the progress of the ongoing development works in the Chenchu settlements and the tasks that still need to be completed.
Basic Amenities for 8,772 Chenchus
The Collector highlighted that 8,772 Chenchus living in 88 settlements across 8 mandals in Nagar Kurnool district should receive 11 types of basic amenities under the PM Jan Man scheme. These amenities include housing, roads, drinking water, and electricity. He also stressed the need to provide Aadhaar cards to all Chenchus within the week.
In addition to this, he directed officials to complete the construction of 890 houses. He also instructed them to set up mobile medical units, Anganwadi centers, and ensure all settlements have access to roads and water. To make it easier for Chenchus to benefit from government schemes, he asked for a special drive to issue identification cards.
Focus on Health and Finance
The Collector directed the Rajiv Aarogyasri officials to prepare a list of Chenchu members for issuing Ayushman Bharat health cards. He also instructed the Lead District Manager (LDM) to make sure all Chenchus who don’t have a bank account can open a Jan Dhan account, which will help them access financial services.
Lastly, he asked the revenue department to continue transferring land titles to the heirs of deceased landowners. This will ensure that the legal rights of the Chenchus are protected.

The meeting was attended by various district officials, including District Animal Husbandry Officer Dr. G.V. Ramesh, PD DRDA Chinna Obulesu, District Panchayat Officer Ram Mohan Rao, and other officers from the eight mandals.
