Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said on Saturday that the Congress party will not allow anyone to win elections by dividing people.

He made these remarks during an Iftar party held in his Kodangal assembly constituency as part of Ramzan celebrations. He said the Congress has always stood against communal forces. Referring to Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra,’ he said Gandhi spoke about spreading love in a place filled with hate.

Reddy added that some people are trying to divide communities just to win elections. “Winning elections is not wrong, but dividing people to win is,” he said. He assured that leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and himself will not let these efforts succeed.

He also reminded the Muslim community that he had raised concerns about the Wakf Amendment Bill in the Assembly. He said that the Congress party has always supported minorities in politics. As an example, he mentioned Kamaluddin Ahmed, who was once made the state Congress president in united Andhra Pradesh.

The Chief Minister promised to approve development works for minorities, such as building community halls (shadi khanas) and hostels. He said he was able to make these commitments because of the support he received from the people.

Reddy mentioned that he couldn’t attend a Ramzan event in Hyderabad due to the model code of conduct in place for an MLC election. He ended by saying that Muslims have always been given more representation in Congress than in any other party and recalled how Muslim leaders had held top positions in the past.
