Telangana CM Urges Civil Servants to Be Proactive and Dedicated

The Chief Minister made these remarks at an event held at the IAS Officers’ Association office, where he launched the book Life of a Karma Yogi, written by retired IAS officer M. Gopalakrishna. Speaking at the event, he highlighted the evolving role of civil servants over the years.

Revanth Reddy pointed out that in the past, IAS officers were closely connected with the people, which made them more recognizable than political leaders. He noted that district collectors who actively toured their regions could resolve issues effectively. However, he expressed concern that some present-day collectors hesitate to leave their air-conditioned offices, stressing that field experience is crucial for district collectors and superintendents of police (SPs).

The Chief Minister called for transformation in the civil services, stating that dedicated officers will always be recognized. He urged civil servants to analyze and explain the impact of political decisions, as they are responsible for ensuring that government rules are followed. He also warned that some officers neglect these duties, which can harm society.

Revanth Reddy paid tribute to distinguished civil servants like Shankaran, known for his dedicated service; T.N. Seshan, who ensured electoral transparency; and Manmohan Singh, who played a key role in India’s economic growth. He encouraged young civil servants to learn from such inspiring figures.

Speaking about M. Gopalakrishna’s book, he said it captures six decades of experience and serves as a valuable guide for civil servants. He emphasized that while material possessions can be acquired, experience cannot be bought, making the book an important resource for administrative officers.

The Chief Minister also praised Gopalakrishna’s vast experience, highlighting that he had witnessed India’s economic transformation from a closed to an open economy, spanning from Jawaharlal Nehru’s era to the present administration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The event was attended by Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari, Association Vice President and Special Chief Secretary of Finance K. Ramakrishna Rao, as well as several IAS, IPS, and IFS officers and other dignitaries.
