Hyderabad: Major Boost to Healthcare with New Osmania General Hospital

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has laid the foundation stone for the new Osmania General Hospital (OGH) in Goshamahal. The new facility, which will have 2,000 beds and cover 32 lakh square feet, aims to be a world-class medical center with advanced infrastructure. Once completed, it will significantly enhance the healthcare system in Telangana.

The hospital will include 29 major and 12 minor operation theatres, accommodating cutting-edge procedures such as robotic surgeries and organ transplants. A dedicated transplant theatre will also be part of the facility. To support medical education, the hospital will introduce eight new super-specialty disciplines and expand its academic wing. Nursing, dental, and physiotherapy colleges will be housed in a new academic block to provide training for students.

The project involves coordination between various departments, including health, education, and law enforcement. While the hospital will be built on 26 acres, the adjacent 11-acre police campus is being redesigned to meet its operational needs.

To make the hospital more accessible, road infrastructure around the area is being upgraded. This includes the introduction of “no signal” junctions and underpasses to reduce traffic congestion. Plans also include helipads for emergency patient transfers and organ transport, ensuring faster medical response during critical situations.

The new campus will be equipped with essential facilities such as a power sub-station, fire station, and systems for managing bio and non-bio waste. A sewage treatment plant will also be established. Additionally, a government school previously located on the hospital land has been relocated to accommodate the project.

This ambitious project marks a significant step forward for Hyderabad’s healthcare system. It promises to deliver advanced medical services and modern education facilities, reinforcing the city’s commitment to providing quality healthcare infrastructure for its citizens.
