Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced several initiatives to support women’s empowerment in the state. These efforts aim to improve the socio-economic status of women, particularly those involved in Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
One of the key announcements is that the government will provide two high-quality sarees every year to each member of the state’s SHGs. This initiative will benefit around 63 lakh women. The government has allocated significant funds to ensure that the sarees are of good quality and are distributed on time. This move recognizes the contributions of SHG members to the state’s economy and society.
In another effort to promote women’s entrepreneurship, a petrol station has been inaugurated in Narayanpet district. This station is managed entirely by the Zilla Mahila Samakhya, a federation of women’s SHGs. The facility, built at a cost of Rs 1.23 crore, is the first of its kind in Telangana. The government plans to establish similar petrol stations in all assembly constituencies, creating sustainable income opportunities for SHG members and helping them gain financial independence.
During his visit to Narayanpet, Chief Minister Reddy also laid the foundation stone for several important infrastructure projects. These include:
– Narayanpet Government Medical College and Hostel: A Rs 130 crore project to improve medical education and healthcare in the region.
– Government Nursing College: A Rs 26 crore investment to train more nursing professionals.
– 100-Bed Maternal and Child Health Wing: A Rs 40 crore project to enhance maternal and child healthcare services.
These projects highlight the government’s commitment to improving healthcare facilities, especially in rural areas.
The state government is also encouraging SHGs to take part in renewable energy projects. One major initiative involves setting up a 1,000 MW solar power plant that will be managed by women’s groups. This project will not only promote clean energy but also provide SHG members with new skills and economic opportunities.
Looking ahead, Chief Minister Reddy has announced plans to organize a massive public gathering with one crore women SHG members. The event will showcase the strength and unity of women’s groups in Telangana and seek more support for their initiatives. The Chief Minister also plans to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to this event.
