A team from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party, led by MLAs T Harish Rao and P Sabitha Indra Reddy, faced obstacles when trying to view the body of a woman named Buchamma. Buchamma allegedly took her own life after her house was demolished by the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA). She had been living in the Nallacheruvu area, which is part of the Kukatpally constituency.
The BRS team went to Gandhi Hospital to see Buchamma’s body. However, the police did not allow them to do so and refused to provide any information about her postmortem. This led to heated arguments between the BRS leaders and the police.
Harish Rao expressed outrage, calling Buchamma’s death a “murder” caused by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. He questioned how many more people would lose their lives due to the actions of HYDRAA. According to Harish Rao, three people had already died by suicide as a result of HYDRAA’s demolition activities.
Harish Rao also announced that the BRS party would soon create a plan to oppose the demolition of homes belonging to poor families. He stated that the party would involve all its MLAs from the city in this effort.
Rao also criticized the current government, saying that previous administrations, including the Congress and Telugu Desam, had allowed the construction of homes. He questioned where Revanth Reddy got the authority to destroy homes that had existed for 30 years. He pointed out that the Land Acquisition Act of 2013 requires compensation and relocation for displaced families, but no such support was being provided.
At the same time, the opposition announced that it would fight against the Congress government’s demolition drive, which is part of the Musi riverfront beautification project in Hyderabad. Harish Rao warned that these demolitions, which he referred to as “bulldozer justice,” would damage the reputation of Hyderabad, a city known for its opportunities and welcoming nature.
Harish Rao also met with families at Telangana Bhavan who are at risk of losing their homes. He assured them that the BRS would provide free legal aid and would challenge their displacement in court.
