Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced the launch of the “Ama Odisha, Nabin Odisha” scheme, which aims to create a new, modern, and aspirational Odisha. The State Cabinet approved the modification of the existing “Ama Gaon Ama Bikash” scheme and allocated Rs 4,000 crore for its implementation. This scheme aims to develop infrastructure, empower women and youth, and preserve Odisha’s unique Shree Jagannath culture. Each gram panchayat in every block will benefit from this scheme.

As part of the scheme, gram panchayats can undertake projects worth up to Rs 10 lakh to protect local places of worship, historical sites, and provide amenities to pilgrims and visitors. The focus will also be on bridging the gap in education infrastructure, providing banking facilities, and building digital infrastructure.

The Cabinet also approved the establishment of ninety-nine 33/11 KV sub-stations and 64 independent lines at a cost of Rs 1,796.73 crore. These projects are currently in progress. The State government has already sanctioned 473 primary sub-stations and associated lines with an approved budget of Rs 3,843 crore, most of which have been completed. However, further system improvements are needed to ensure quality and reliable power supply to consumers, including upgrading transformers, replacing old/damaged conductors, and strengthening existing power lines.

To address low voltage issues in rural areas, the State government has formulated the Chief Minister’s Power Development Programme. A budget of Rs 1,284.49 crore has been allocated for this initiative during the financial years 2023-24 and 2024-25.
