Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao expressed his pride in the success of the health sector in Telangana during the inauguration of nine new medical colleges virtually. He highlighted that Telangana, once underestimated by rulers in undivided Andhra Pradesh, is now a role model for the country with 26 medical colleges. The government plans to establish eight more colleges in the next academic year, along with nursing colleges in all districts.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of the “white coat doctors” produced by Telangana in promoting a healthy state and nation. He noted that since 2014, the number of medical seats has increased from 2,850 to 8,515, with the capacity to produce 10,000 doctors annually. Despite legal challenges, the government fought to provide 85 seats specifically for Telangana students and emerged victorious in the High Court.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister stressed the significance of well-equipped medical and health facilities in mitigating the impact of pandemics such as Covid-19. To address this, 34 new medical colleges are being established, which will also function as government hospitals for the public. He commended Harish Rao for his dynamic efforts and urged ministers and MLAs to visit the colleges to ensure their quality.
Harish Rao, in his remarks, highlighted the historic achievement of starting nine medical colleges in a single day. He praised the Chief Minister for revolutionizing the healthcare landscape by establishing a medical college in each district. He congratulated the students who enrolled in the courses on this momentous occasion.
