Hyderabad: On Sunday, leaders from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) accused the state government of acting only after their party initiated the ‘Gurukul Baata’ program. They claimed that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and other ministers started the ‘Hostels Baata’ program in response to the BRS campaign.
During a press conference held at the Telangana Bhavan, key BRS leaders, including RS Praveen Kumar, E Srinivas, B Suman, and G Srinivas Yadav, highlighted the issue of student deaths caused by food poisoning in Gurukuls and welfare hostels. They stated that BRS working president KT Rama Rao had directed them to visit these institutions and submit a detailed report. The findings were then shared with the party chief, KCR.
RS Praveen Kumar challenged the Chief Minister to join him at the Martyrs’ Memorial for a public discussion about the condition of Gurukuls and welfare hostels under KCR’s administration compared to the current state under opposition leader Revanth Reddy. He also pointed out that the achievements of students, such as those showcased in front of Revanth Reddy in Chilukuru, were the result of initiatives taken during KCR’s tenure. However, he criticized the government, claiming that 53 students lost their lives due to food poisoning in these institutions.
BRS leader B Suman further alleged that during the Chief Minister’s and ministers’ visits to hostels, students were prevented from voicing their concerns. He accused the government of attempting to dismantle the Gurukul system under the guise of erasing KCR’s legacy. The BRS leaders also declared their intention to bring up the issue during upcoming Assembly sessions.
