CM Revanth Reddy Launches Indira Mahila Shakti Mission to Empower Women
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has highlighted the significant progress women in Telangana have made over the past year. He believes that women can play a key role in helping the state reach a $1 trillion economy if they actively participate in economic activities.
Speaking at a public meeting on Saturday for International Women’s Day, the Chief Minister launched the Indira Mahila Shakti Mission – 2025. This initiative aims to empower women financially and provide them with better opportunities.
Revanth Reddy announced an ambitious goal of creating one crore women crorepatis (millionaires). He expressed his admiration for former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, known as “Amma” in Telangana, and former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao, known as “Anna.” He also shared his gratitude for being called “Revanth Anna” by the people.
As part of his commitment to women’s empowerment, the CM launched solar power plants run by Self-Help Groups (SHGs). He also distributed insurance cheques worth Rs 44.88 crore and financial aid of Rs 22,794 crore to SHGs. Additionally, he flagged off 150 buses owned by SHGs, which will be leased to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (RTC). This is part of a larger plan to introduce 1,000 electric buses owned by women’s groups with government support.
Revanth Reddy criticized the previous BRS government, accusing them of neglecting SHGs. He stated that now that the “Chandragrahanam” (eclipse) is over, his government is focused on strengthening SHGs and ensuring they play a crucial role in the economy. To boost participation, he directed officials to lower the minimum age for joining SHGs from 18 to 15 years and increase the upper age limit from 60 to 65 years.
The Chief Minister also instructed officials to allow SHGs to supply food to state-run residential schools. Additionally, the government has entrusted women’s groups with the task of stitching 1.3 crore pairs of school uniforms.
To further support women, the government is constructing Mahila Shakti buildings, with each unit costing Rs 25 crore. Revanth Reddy stated that the goal is to turn women into entrepreneurs, enabling them to compete with big industrialists like Adani and Ambani. He emphasized that initiatives such as leasing electric buses to RTC and helping women establish rice mills will empower them financially and contribute to Telangana’s development.
