In Telangana, many engineering students are choosing to pursue a career in Civil Services. These students believe that working in Civil Services offers better job satisfaction and the opportunity to serve the public in leadership roles. Many of the successful candidates in the UPSC examinations come from engineering backgrounds, with 60-70% of this year’s rankers being engineers, including top ranker Uma Harathi who graduated from IIT Hyderabad.

Experts believe that the rigorous academic training and competitive exams that engineering students undergo before college contribute to their success in the UPSC exams. Additionally, many engineers choose Civil Services out of personal ambition and a desire to make a meaningful impact. Despite higher salaries in the corporate sector, many believe that Civil Services offers greater job satisfaction as it allows individuals to work for the welfare of society.

Utkarsh Kumar, who graduated from IIT Kharagpur and secured AIR 78 in 2022, believes that Civil Services offers a unique opportunity for engineers to contribute to the digital transformation of India through e-governance. Similarly, Sri Sai Ashrith, who secured AIR 40 in 2022, believes that success is determined by hard work and focusing on core areas rather than one’s background.
