Hyderabad Traffic Police Launches Operation ROPE in Tolichowki
The Hyderabad traffic police resumed their “Operation ROPE” (Removal of Obstructive Parking and Encroachments) on Tuesday in Tolichowki. This initiative focused on clearing footpaths and roads of encroachments and illegal parking that disrupt traffic flow.
The operation was led by Hyderabad City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand. With the help of cranes, LMVs, and additional personnel, the team worked to remove obstacles from the area. Commissioner Anand stated that these special drives would continue across the city to clear footpaths and recover road space, aiming to ease traffic congestion.
C.V. Anand emphasized that the ROPE initiative would be intensified across Hyderabad. He pointed out that clearing footpaths and removing obstructions on carriageways are critical to reducing traffic issues. According to Anand, many roadside vendors encroaching on public spaces are not poor but come from other states and pay substantial amounts to local mafias. He also revealed that some shopkeepers lease the space in front of their stores for profit, further aggravating the problem. Anand urged cooperation from citizens, politicians, and officials to find long-term solutions, though he noted potential challenges if local politicians do not support the efforts.
In addition to clearing encroachments, the traffic police also conducted a special drive against the unauthorized use of sirens in four-wheelers. These sirens create confusion, disrupt traffic flow, and pose risks to road safety. In the past month, the police seized 1,015 sirens and 525 multi-tone horns for violating regulations.
As part of the operation, the confiscated equipment was crushed under a road roller on Tolichowki Road. Commissioner C.V. Anand supervised the process, alongside senior officers P. Vishwa Prasad (Additional CP Traffic) and Venkateswarlu (DCP Traffic), as well as other traffic personnel.
