The Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) has warned hospitals in Greater Hyderabad to only hire MBBS degree holders as Duty Medical Officers (DMOs), not other degree holders like Pharm D, BAMS, BHMS, etc. TSMC found many hospitals not displaying registration numbers of consultant doctors and some appointing non-MBBS degree holders as DMOs, writing patient case sheets.

Hospitals were also appointing Ayush doctors as DMOs and out-of-state consultants were practicing without registering or renewing with TSMC. TSMC directed super specialty hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, private hospitals, and Registered Medical Practitioners to only appoint MBBS degree holders as DMOs and all consultants to register/renew with TSMC.

When hiring doctors, authorities should verify their credentials by contacting TSMC or checking the website. TSMC will take action for any violations under Telangana Medical Practitioners Registration Act and National Medical Commission Act, 2019.
