Hyderabad: The State BJP announced on Thursday that the Special Judicial First Class Magistrate for an Excise case has summoned Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to appear in court on September 24.

The summons were issued for alleged offenses under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 499, 171C, 171G, 153, as well as Section 125 of the Representation of Peoples Act.

According to the BJP, the summons stem from a criminal case filed by the party’s general secretary, Kasam Venkateshwarlu, on May 14 (Case No. 312/2024). The complaint was lodged against the Chief Minister for making what the party claims were provocative and baseless statements during the 2024 elections. Specifically, the CM allegedly said that if the BJP came to power, it would abolish SC, ST, and BC reservations in India.

The BJP argued that these statements were false and intended to harm the party’s reputation in the eyes of voters. The party also claimed that such statements were made to unduly influence voters, which would constitute an election offense under the law.

After reviewing the documents submitted by the complainant, examining witnesses, and hearing the arguments presented by the complainant’s counsel, Hamsa Devineni, and senior counsel Vijay Kumar Devineni, the court decided to issue the summons, the BJP stated.
