Hyderabad: A court in Hyderabad has sent notices to Telangana Minister Konda Surekha, asking her to explain her controversial comments about the divorce of popular actors Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The court has asked for her explanation by October 23.
These notices were issued after a criminal defamation case was filed by Nagarjuna Akkineni, Naga Chaitanya’s father, in the Nampally court. The case was registered under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The Nampally Special Magistrate Court has scheduled the next hearing for October 23, following the testimony of a second witness, Venkateswara.
Nagarjuna, the complainant, stated that the Minister’s comments were aimed at harming the social reputation of the Akkineni family. He filed both criminal and civil defamation charges and is seeking financial compensation for the damage caused.
The controversy started when Surekha claimed that BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) had sought inappropriate favors from the Akkineni family before their N-Convention Centre was demolished. She also hinted that KTR was somehow linked to the divorce of Naga Chaitanya and Samantha, alleging that “many heroines have left the film industry quickly due to KTR’s influence on their lives.”
These remarks sparked outrage in the film industry. Well-known actors like Chiranjeevi, Allu Arjun, and Nani, along with film directors and producers, condemned Surekha’s statements, calling them “derogatory.”
