Hyderabad: The Chief Secretary has instructed officials to create plans for setting up solar power plants operated by women Self-Help Groups (SHGs). This initiative aims to empower women and encourage their participation in renewable energy projects.
During a review meeting on Thursday at the Secretariat, Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari discussed the progress of the Indira Mahila Shakti Bazaar being built in Shilparamam. The bazaar will have 106 shops and is expected to open by the first week of December. It will serve as a platform for marketing products made by women SHGs from across the state. The Chief Secretary stressed the importance of completing the construction of 22 Indira Mahila Shakti Bhavans within the next eight months to boost women’s involvement in social and economic activities.
Plans are also underway to enable SHGs to purchase 600 buses, which will be operated by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC). This initiative aims to provide women with economic opportunities and improve transportation services.
In addition, a major target has been set to establish solar power plants with a total capacity of 4,000 MW through women’s groups. In the first phase, 1,000 MW of capacity will be installed on unused government lands leased for this purpose. To support the project, zero-interest loans will be offered, and Telangana Redco and Vidyut Discoms will handle the maintenance of these plants.
