Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has proposed a complete overhaul of all state universities. He expressed concern that the systems in these institutions have deteriorated over the last 10 years.

On Saturday, the newly appointed vice chancellors from all state universities, along with Professor Balakrishna Reddy, Chairman of the Telangana State Higher Education Council, met with the Chief Minister. During the meeting, Revanth Reddy stressed the need to restore the trust and credibility of the universities. He noted that the reputation of these institutions has declined in recent years, and it’s time to rebuild and improve their reliability.

The Chief Minister instructed the vice chancellors to first prepare a report on the current performance of the universities. After this, they are expected to take necessary steps to improve the institutions. He emphasized that the systems in the universities are not functioning properly, and a detailed study should be conducted to understand the present conditions before making changes.

Revanth Reddy also urged the vice chancellors to work hard to regain the trust of students and the public. He stated that if necessary, the institutions should hire consultancies to help prepare reports on the functioning of the universities.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the new vice chancellors were appointed based strictly on merit and social considerations, without any external influence. He encouraged them to strive for excellence and bring recognition to the state. He also cautioned that the government will not hesitate to take strict action if things go wrong.

The vice chancellors have been given the freedom to perform their duties, and the government promised to support those who do a good job. Revanth Reddy stressed that the universities must be revamped completely, as they once had vice chancellors whom students remembered for years. He also instructed university officials to focus on preventing drug and ganja trafficking in universities, and to counsel students to keep them away from such activities.
