Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has announced that his government will take full responsibility for training athletes in Telangana to help them win medals in the next Olympic Games. He also shared that South Korean coaches will be hired soon to train these athletes.
During the inauguration of the “Chief Minister’s Cup – 2024” at LB Stadium on Thursday, the Chief Minister said Telangana will be developed as a major sports hub in the country. He reminded the audience that 25 years ago, Hyderabad hosted the Commonwealth and Afro-Asian Games, setting a great example. However, he expressed concern that sports have been neglected in the state over the past decade.
The CM also raised concerns about youth in Hyderabad getting addicted to drugs instead of focusing on sports. To promote sports, Telangana has already adopted the Under-17 National Football Team. This is part of the government’s efforts to make Hyderabad a leading city for sports.
Revanth Reddy pointed out that small countries like South Korea won 36 medals in the recent Olympic Games. To boost sports in the state, the government is setting up the Young India Sports University. This university will provide high-quality coaching, and South Korean coaches will be brought in to train athletes.
The Chief Minister emphasized that sports bring people together regardless of religion or background. He said promoting sports will enhance India’s reputation globally. He encouraged the youth to avoid drugs and instead focus on excelling in sports, which will make both Hyderabad and India proud.
