Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy warned that MLAs causing disruptions during assembly sessions might face cancellation of their membership. He criticized opposition leader K. Chandrashekhar Rao for not attending the State Assembly’s budget session.
The Chief Minister recalled that the previous BRS government had expelled Congress leaders Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Sampath Kumar from the House. He himself was suspended for an entire session.
In a conversation with the media, the Chief Minister expressed that his government aims to avoid expulsions, suspensions, and the use of marshals in the House. He mentioned that the Congress government runs the assembly democratically, giving opposition members more time to speak. He highlighted the lengthy 17-hour daily sessions, which he claimed were unprecedented even in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh.
Revanth Reddy also spoke about his past association with BRS MLAs Sabitha Indra Reddy and Sunitha Laxma Reddy when they were all in the Congress party. He mentioned having two pending cases from his campaign for Sunitha in the 2018 elections. He noted that Sabitha had invited him to join Congress but later joined the ruling BRS and campaigned against him.
The Chief Minister clarified that he did not use any inappropriate language in his speeches. He questioned why KCR was absent from the assembly, leaving only KTR and Harish Rao present. He criticized KCR for being power-hungry and neglecting people’s problems after losing the Chief Minister position.
Revanth Reddy claimed that the ongoing budget session was thorough, allowing everyone to speak on the budget and other bills. He emphasized that the State budget was presented in alignment with the Central government budget, and it was essential to approve the appropriation bill by July 31. He argued that the quality of the discussion was more important than the number of days the session lasted.
When asked about Gadwal MLA rejoining BRS, the Chief Minister mentioned that eight to nine BRS MLAs recently had tea with him. He rhetorically questioned if that meant they had joined the Congress.
