Hyderabad:
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has described the upcoming caste census as a “health check-up” for society. He announced that the entire process, starting on November 6, would be completed by the end of the month.
Reddy chaired a meeting at Gandhi Bhavan with the party’s executive on the caste census. During the meeting, he suggested appointing observers in each of the 33 districts to ensure better coordination. PCC chief B Mahesh Kumar Goud, who presided over the meeting, agreed and said that coordinators would be appointed soon. A unanimous resolution was passed by the party’s public representatives, including the Chief Minister, to ensure the smooth conduct of the census.
Leaders, including Ministers, MPs, MLAs, and MLCs, discussed the upcoming socio-economic and caste survey to be conducted by the State government. The meeting also decided to urge the Central government to include an OBC caste census as part of the upcoming national census.
Revanth Reddy emphasized that while officials are responsible for carrying out the census, party leaders should coordinate closely with them. He added that 33 observers would be appointed, and suggestions would be provided to officials. He also mentioned that a model document of the caste census would be sent to the Centre, recommending its use in future national censuses. He reiterated that this census was not just an “X-ray” but a complete “health check-up” for society.
The Chief Minister urged party members to fulfill the promises made by top leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, during elections. He emphasized that there was no room for disagreement on this issue.
“If anyone has a difference of opinion on this matter, they would be considered traitors,” Reddy warned. He also advised everyone to avoid any objectionable actions while carrying out Rahul Gandhi’s promises, as such behavior would lead to disciplinary action.
