Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara scored a century in the County Championship Division Two 2023 against Gloucestershire on Saturday. Pujara’s knock of 151 runs from 238 deliveries included 20 fours and two sixes as Sussex declared their innings at 455/5 on Day 3. At the end of the day’s play, Gloucestershire were 41 without loss. This century helped Pujara overtake Wasim Jaffer in the list of Indian batters with most first class tons, taking him to fourth place with 58 centuries.
Pujara is currently the top-scorer in the tournament this season with 322 runs so far from five innings. His form ahead of the World Test Championship (WTC) final is a good sign for India. While Pujara is playing in England, his teammates are participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The WTC final will begin on June 7, a week after the IPL ends on May 28.
India’s Test squad for the WTC final includes Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, K L Rahul, KS Bharat (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, and Jaydev Unadkat. This will be India’s second consecutive summit clash after losing to New Zealand in the inaugural WTC final. Australia will be playing their maiden WTC final.
