Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced a cash reward of Rs. 25 lakh each for chess players Arjun and Harika. This was in recognition of their outstanding performances at the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad, which was recently held in Budapest, Hungary. Currently, Arjun is ranked 3rd in the world, while Harika holds the 11th position.
Both the Indian men’s and women’s chess teams made history by winning team gold medals at the event. Arjun also secured an individual gold medal, further boosting India’s reputation in the international chess community.
During a ceremony to honor the players, the Chief Minister stated that the reward shows the government’s commitment to supporting excellence in sports. He praised the achievements of Indian athletes and emphasized the importance of recognizing their success. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including State Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswar Rao, MLA Nayini Rajendher Reddy, Adviser Vema Narender Reddy, Sports Chairman Shiv Sena Reddy, and Sports MD Soni Bala Devi.
