The Cherlapalli Railway Terminal in Hyderabad, built at a cost of ₹413 crore, was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. This marks a significant milestone in the city’s infrastructure development. The terminal becomes Hyderabad’s fifth main station, joining Nampally, Secunderabad, Kacheguda, and Lingampally. It is expected to enhance connectivity between Hyderabad and Secunderabad, boosting regional development.
The new terminal is strategically located near the Outer Ring Road (ORR), which is expected to reduce congestion at existing train stations and make travel more convenient for passengers. It features modern amenities, including nine platforms (with four newly added), lifts, escalators, and solar-powered operations, showcasing India’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure.
During the inauguration, PM Modi highlighted the terminal as a step toward creating sustainable infrastructure and improving the overall quality of life and ease of doing business in the region. He also emphasized the government’s broader efforts to enhance India’s infrastructure, such as canals, metro systems, and highways.
The Cherlapalli Railway Terminal is designed to handle up to 20 long-distance trains, making it a crucial addition to the city’s transit system. Its capacity and modern features are expected to significantly improve travel for residents and visitors alike.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who attended the ceremony virtually, expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the terminal’s completion. He also requested additional railway projects to further boost the state’s development. These included a new railway line between Kalwakurthi and Macherla, another between Vikarabad and Krishna, and extensions from Dornakal.
The inaugural event was attended by several prominent officials, including South Central Railways (SCR) General Manager Arun Kumar Jain, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, Union Minister and Telangana BJP President G. Kishan Reddy, and Governor Jishnu Dev Varma.
