Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen gave a speech to parliament using an artificial intelligence tool called ChatGPT to show the potential of AI. Frederiksen admitted that part of the speech was written by ChatGPT and praised its capabilities. ChatGPT can generate essays, poems, and conversations from brief prompts, which has led to billions of dollars of investment in the field. However, critics worry that chatbots could spread disinformation, biased algorithms could produce racist material, or AI-powered automation could destroy entire industries.
The technology is on the agenda of a high-level meeting on trade between the United States and the European Union in Sweden. Industry chiefs and experts have warned about the potential threat of “extinction” posed by AI. The speech by Frederiksen contained sentences written by ChatGPT, including statements about leading a broad government, working across parties, combating climate change, and ensuring a fairer society.
Frederiksen’s regular speechwriters have not commented on the quality of ChatGPT’s writing.
