Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the national President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), visited the party’s Telangana headquarters in Hyderabad on Tuesday. He expressed his confidence that the TDP will regain its glory in Telangana and become a major political force once again. Naidu urged party members to work hard towards this goal.

Naidu, a former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, claimed that the TDP laid the foundation for Telangana’s progress, citing examples such as Hitec City, Cyberabad, Airport, Metro and Genome Valley. He also stated that Telangana’s economy improved after bifurcation and that it emerged as the number one state in the country.

Naidu is also confident that the TDP will return to power in Andhra Pradesh after the next assembly elections. He recently met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national President JP Nadda in Delhi on June 3, amidst reports of a possible alliance between TDP and BJP in Telugu states. Assembly elections in Telangana are scheduled for late 2023, while elections to Andhra Pradesh Assembly are due along with Lok Sabha polls next year.

The TDP had pulled out of the BJP-led NDA in 2018 over the issue of special category status to Andhra Pradesh. The party had fought 2018 Assembly elections in alliance with Congress and smaller parties but had to face defeat. The TDP went alone in Andhra Pradesh but lost power to the YSR Congress Party. Following this defeat, Naidu softened his stand towards the BJP and is now keen to join hands with it in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
