Nagar Kurnool: M. Srinivasulu, the General Secretary of the Telangana Rythu Sangham in Nagar Kurnool, has demanded that the central government, led by the BJP, fulfill all promises made to farmers. On Thursday, at Ambedkar Chowk in Nagar Kurnool, the Telangana Rythu Sangham district committee paid tribute to the farmers who lost their lives during the Lakhimpur Kheri massacre. The group also vowed to continue their protests until all farmer-related issues are resolved.
Srinivasulu spoke about the BJP government introducing laws that were harmful to farmers. Due to widespread farmer protests across the country, these laws were eventually withdrawn. He also recalled the tragic incident in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, where the son of a Deputy Home Minister drove a car into farmers who were protesting peacefully, killing both farmers and journalists. He called for strict punishment for the person responsible, saying that the actions taken so far have been insufficient.
Srinivasulu criticized the government for not honoring Dr. Swaminathan, known as the father of the Green Revolution, with the Bharat Ratna while he was alive. He said the best way to honor Dr. Swaminathan’s legacy would be to implement the Minimum Support Price (MSP) law based on his recommendations. He urged the government to pass this law in Parliament and to scientifically determine MSPs for all crops. Additionally, he stressed that the government should purchase all agricultural produce directly from farmers to ensure fair treatment.
Srinivasulu also demanded the immediate removal of the Electricity Amendment Act. He called for a minimum pension for farmers and for banks to provide investment support to farmers for their crops. He warned that large-scale protests will continue across the country, in collaboration with various farmers’ unions, until these demands are met.
Several leaders participated in the event, including District President Ball Reddy, District Assistant Secretary Gopal Laxman, CITU District General Secretary R. Srinivas, and DYFI leader Madhu.
